Study 01

Deck of Triumphs

  • MSc, 2023 to 2024
  • Version 0.1, draft
The 60-second version

I interviewed disabled people one to one about their successes, then turned their stories into a deck of cards. The cards were shown at Teesside University, and visitors added triumphs of their own. The findings will be published here once consent details are confirmed.

The question
How can the successes of disabled people be told through cards? Wording to confirm.
Method and sample
Purposive sampling across a range of disabilities. One-to-one, semi-structured interviews with probing questions. Thematic analysis.
What was found
Findings to supply.
Ethics
Consent, anonymity and approval details to supply. No participant is identifiable without their permission.
Limitations
What this study cannot say, to supply.
References

Study 02

Beyond Labels

  • MSc, May 2023
  • Version 0.1, draft
The 60-second version

I looked at how a lack of inclusive fashion, and stigma, affect the way disabled people express themselves and feel about themselves. The work became a concept for a fashion brand where every garment can tell its wearer’s story.

The question
How do a lack of inclusive fashion, and stigma, affect self-expression and self-esteem for disabled people? Wording to confirm.
Method
Theory (Maslow’s hierarchy of needs; Kim and Ko, 2007, on self-expression), UK disability prevalence data, competitor positioning, a user persona and a five-part ethics framework.
What was found
Findings to supply.
Ethics
  • User privacy and data protection
  • Accessibility and inclusivity
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Fairness and transparency
Limitations
This is a concept study, not a trading brand. Further limitations to supply.
